Fly-Tipping Clearance collection planning illustration

Do not let speed replace basic checks

A cheap offer or immediate arrival does not establish that a collector is authorised. Ask for the business identity and relevant registration details, then check current SEPA information. Keep the written collection agreement. Be cautious if someone refuses to identify the operator or gives an explanation that does not match the waste you have described.

Agree the waste and the price clearly

Send photographs and declare the full contents, including heavy or unusual material. Ask what the quote includes and how changes are handled. Do not accept an unexplained plan to leave material elsewhere for another person to collect. Your arrangements should make it clear who is taking responsibility for the load and how to contact them afterwards.

Report existing dumping through the right route

If waste has already been dumped, avoid disturbing unknown material and contact the relevant authority or land manager as appropriate. Private-land clearance should be assessed before handling, especially if sharps, chemicals or suspect asbestos may be present. Keep relevant photographs safely without entering a hazardous area. The fly-tipping service page explains how to request a clearance assessment.
